Huge Demand for HGV Drivers across the UK.  Earn up to £50K Start TrainingExplainer Video

Flexible Online CPC Training

As the September 2024 CPC (Driver Certificate of Professional Competence) deadline approaches, transport managers across the UK face a critical challenge: ensuring that all professional drivers have completed their required 35 hours of training. With the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) reminding operators of the looming deadline, it’s clear that action needs to be taken now to avoid last-minute scrambles and potential penalties.

Why This Deadline Matters

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Driver CPC for lorry drivers. Introduced in 2009, the CPC was designed to improve road safety and maintain high standards in professional driving. All lorry drivers must obtain their Driver Qualification Card (DQC) by September 9, 2014. This means that many drivers’ cards will expire at the same time this year, leading to a surge in demand for training.

In 2019, data showed that drivers tended to leave their CPC training until six months before the deadline. This resulted in a significant spike in training hours during that period, with five times more hours being completed per month than in the previous year. The risk for those who delay is high – a driver who misses the deadline cannot legally drive professionally until they complete their training and could face fines of up to £1,000.

The Shift to Online Training: A Game Changer

Fortunately, the landscape of CPC training has evolved. The training is no longer confined to the classroom, and drivers can now complete their CPC training online. This shift to online learning means that drivers can fit their training into their schedules without the need to take time off work or travel to a training centre.

At UK HGV we’ve embraced this change by offering comprehensive online CPC courses. Whether your team needs to complete their full 35 hours or just top up a few remaining modules, our courses are designed to be effective and convenient.

Stay Ahead of the Deadline

The DVSA is encouraging operators to remind their drivers to check how many hours they’ve completed and ensure they’re on track to meet the September deadline. While drivers can check their hours and share this information with their employers, operators cannot directly access this data due to privacy regulations. This makes it even more critical for transport managers to stay proactive in tracking and scheduling training.

Don’t let your team fall behind. The last thing you want is to be caught in the rush of drivers trying to complete their training at the eleventh hour. By taking advantage of online CPC training now, you can ensure that your drivers remain compliant, avoid fines, and continue to operate without interruption.

Take the Stress Out of CPC Compliance

The upcoming CPC deadline doesn’t have to be a source of stress. With flexible online training options and tailored group sessions, you can take control of the process and ensure your drivers are fully prepared. At UK HGV we’re here to support you every step of the way, providing the tools and resources you need to keep your team on the road.
