CPC or a Certificate of Professional Competence is a legal requirement for all HGV license holders that wish to work and earn a salary as a driver. Those that passed their car test before 1997 and have not held a CPC before will need to do their Periodic CPC (35 hours) whereas drivers that passed after 1997 and/or have held a CPC before will do their Initial CPC (Modules 2 & 4)

What is a CPC?
CPC or a Certificate of Professional Competence is a legal requirement for all HGV license holders that wish to work and earn a salary as a driver. The qualification needs to be renewed every 5 years.
What is an Initial CPC?
Those that passed their car test before 1997 and have not held a CPC before will do their Initial CPC. This is split into two parts, Module 2 and Module 4. Module 2 is a theory test and Module is a practical “Show me Tell me” test.
Periodic CPC
Driers that passed their car test after 1997 and/or have held a CPC before will do their Periodic CPC. This is 35 hours of online training. No test, attendance only is required.
